How to Speed Up Shutting Down/ Logging Off Process

This tutorial is tested on with Window Vista and Window 7.

Some computers may take longer time to shut down/ loggoff. This problem can be change by edit the registry of the system. To do this, go to Menu > Regedit .

Once the Registry Editor opened, go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE  > SYSTEM > CURRENT CONTROL SET > CONTROL

Right-click at 'WaitToKillServiceTimeout', and select 'Modify'.

At the Edit String window, change the Value data from "12000" to "1000" (or any value between 1000 to 12000 - means that 1s to 12s).

Then, close the window and exit Registry Editor. Restart your computer. And. you can see the shutting down process is now faster!

Notes: If you're having problem with the shutting down, maybe too quick, then just increase the time in the Value data to a higher value than the one that you've set before.
